Dear Kelly,
Thanks for your email! It was great to hear from you.
In Russia, New Year is the main winter holiday. Families decorate a fir tree, exchange presents and stay up until midnight to hear the Kremlin clock strike twelve and make a wish. As for special dishes, we usually have Olivier salad, tangerines and sparkling wine. My family celebrates at home: we cook together, watch films and then go for a walk to see the fireworks.
That's exciting news about Russian! Why did you decide to start learning it? Are you taking a course or studying on your own? How much time can you spend on it every week?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Alex
