Nowadays, schoolchildren study many subjects, and people often argue about which of them matters most. Some believe that a foreign language is the most important school subject of all. I partly agree, but I cannot accept that it is more important than every other subject.

In my opinion, a foreign language is certainly one of the most valuable subjects. Firstly, it opens the door to communication with people from other countries, which is essential in our globalised world. Secondly, knowing a foreign language gives young people access to foreign websites, books and films, so they can learn about other cultures directly. Thirdly, good language skills can help school leavers find a well-paid job in international companies.

However, some people believe that a foreign language is the most important subject. They argue that it allows students to continue their education abroad and work internationally. They also say that other subjects can be studied independently through foreign educational websites.

I cannot fully agree with the idea that a foreign language is the most important subject. Every school subject has its own value, and a person needs a broad education to succeed. A foreign language is a useful tool, but it cannot replace basic knowledge of maths, science or the humanities.

In conclusion, although a foreign language is undoubtedly very important, I do not think it is the most important school subject. A balanced education, where languages and other subjects support each other, is far more beneficial for students.
