Nowadays, people often argue that natural sciences matter far more than the humanities. While subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology are undoubtedly valuable, I strongly disagree that they are more important than the arts and humanities.

In my opinion, the humanities are just as essential as the natural sciences. Firstly, they teach us to think critically, analyse arguments and express our thoughts clearly, and these skills are needed in every profession, including science. Secondly, literature, history and philosophy help us understand other people and cultures, which is vital in our globalised world. Finally, scientific progress raises serious ethical questions, and only the humanities can help us answer them wisely.

However, some people believe that natural sciences deserve priority. They point out that scientific discoveries cure diseases, develop technology and drive economic growth, so funding should go mainly to these fields. Moreover, they claim that humanities graduates often struggle to find well-paid jobs.

I cannot fully agree with this view. Science and the humanities are not rivals but partners: a doctor needs both medical knowledge and compassion, while a historian must master modern research methods. Besides, many employers value the communication and analytical skills that humanities graduates possess.

In conclusion, although natural sciences are extremely important, I am convinced that they are not more important than the humanities. Both are necessary for a harmonious and truly developed society.
