Nowadays, more and more teenagers spend their free time helping others, and many people believe that volunteering is an essential part of growing up. In my opinion, taking part in volunteer projects really is important for young people.

To begin with, volunteering helps teenagers develop valuable skills that school rarely teaches. When a young person organises a charity event or works with children, they learn to communicate, plan and take responsibility. Moreover, such activity broadens their outlook: they meet people from different backgrounds and understand the problems of others. Finally, volunteering gives teenagers a sense of purpose and increases their confidence, which is especially useful during the difficult teenage years.

However, some people argue that volunteering is not essential because teenagers are already overloaded with studies and exams. In their view, free time should be spent on rest or on preparing for university, and helping others can wait until adulthood.

I cannot fully agree with this position. Of course, studies come first, but volunteering does not have to take many hours; even occasional help is valuable. Besides, the skills and experience gained through volunteering often support academic success and future careers rather than hinder them.

In conclusion, although teenagers do face a heavy workload, I firmly believe that volunteering is essential, as it builds character, skills and empathy that no textbook can provide.
