Nowadays, people often argue about which spheres deserve priority funding, and some claim that science should come first in the modern world. In my opinion, this statement is only partly true, because science is extremely important, yet it cannot be the only priority.

I agree that science deserves serious financial support for several reasons. Firstly, scientific research creates the technologies that improve medicine, transport and communication, so investment in it benefits everyone. Secondly, many global problems, such as climate change and new diseases, can only be solved through scientific work. Finally, well-funded science attracts talented young people and prevents the brain drain that weakens national economies.

However, some people believe that science should not be financed before everything else. They point out that without good schools, hospitals and social support, ordinary citizens suffer immediately, while the results of research may appear only after many years. Moreover, excessive spending on science can divert money from culture and education, which also shape a healthy society.

I cannot fully agree with this opposing view. Although social needs are urgent, science is precisely what makes better medicine and education possible in the long run. A reasonable balance is needed, but cutting research budgets usually costs far more later.

In conclusion, science is certainly one of the first things to be financed in the modern world, yet it should be supported alongside other essential spheres rather than instead of them.
