Nowadays, many people in Zetland choose to keep pets, and understanding their reasons is important. The table shows the results of an opinion poll on why Zetlanders have animals at home.
According to the data, the most popular reason is not to feel lonely, chosen by 44% of respondents. Another 22% keep pets to feel happy, while 14% do so to spend more time outdoors. The least common reasons are taking care of someone (12%) and coping with stress (8%).
Comparing the figures, emotional comfort clearly outweighs practical benefits: the share of those who keep pets to avoid loneliness is exactly twice as high as the share of those who want to feel happy. Moreover, the two leading emotional reasons together account for 66%, which is far more than all the remaining reasons combined.
However, keeping a pet can cause problems, such as allergies or damage to furniture. A reasonable solution is to choose a suitable animal carefully and to train it properly from an early age.
Owners should also make sure they can afford food and veterinary care.
In conclusion, I believe pets play a vital role in our lives. They reduce loneliness and bring joy, so their benefits clearly outweigh the difficulties they may cause.
