Interestingly, improving living conditions is almost four times more popular than gaining financial independence (55% versus 12%). This suggests that most students work mainly to satisfy basic everyday needs rather than to prove their independence. Another notable comparison is that work experience (15%) is slightly more important than earning money for travelling (10%), which shows that career benefits matter to some students alongside income.
However, a serious problem can arise: combining work with studies often leads to stress, exhaustion and falling grades. A reasonable solution is for students to take flexible or weekend jobs with limited hours, and for universities to offer academic support and time-management advice.
In conclusion, I believe doing a part-time job is genuinely important for students, because it develops responsibility and practical skills. Nevertheless, it should never come at the expense of their education, so a sensible balance is essential.
