Living conditions in large cities are a pressing issue in Zetland, and the survey of school students reveals what young people consider the most effective improvements. Their answers show a clear preference for environmental measures over transport-related ones.
According to the table, the most popular suggestion is making the air cleaner, chosen by 34% of the respondents. Planting more trees is supported by 22% of the students, while only 8% believe that reducing the number of cars would improve urban life.
Comparing the two most popular options, making the air cleaner is 9 percentage points ahead of reducing noise levels (34% versus 25%). This gap suggests that students see air pollution as a more serious everyday problem than noise. It is also striking that building more bicycle lanes, at 11%, is mentioned almost three times less often than cleaner air.
One major problem in large cities is heavy traffic, which causes both pollution and noise. A practical solution would be to develop affordable public transport and safe cycling infrastructure, so that residents can leave their cars at home.
In my opinion, improving urban living conditions should start with reducing air pollution, because clean air directly affects everyone's health. If the authorities combine this with more green spaces, cities in Zetland will become healthier and more comfortable places to live.
