Nowadays, films are an essential part of teenage leisure, and their tastes shape the film industry. I have found some data on what film genres are popular among teenagers in Zetland and will comment on it.
According to the table, fantasy and sci-fi are the most popular genres, chosen by 42% of the respondents. Horror and thriller come second, with 23% of teenagers preferring them. Comedy is selected by 18% of the young viewers, while drama and melodrama attract only 12%.
Comparing the figures, fantasy and sci-fi are almost twice as popular as horror and thriller (42% versus 23%), which shows that teenagers in Zetland are drawn to imaginary worlds and spectacular stories. Interestingly, detective films are the least favoured option, with just 5%, eight times less than fantasy and sci-fi.
One problem connected with watching films is that teenagers may spend too much time in front of screens, which harms their health and studies. A good solution is to set a daily limit on screen time and choose films together with friends or family, turning viewing into a social activity.
In conclusion, I believe that watching movies is important because it broadens our horizons, develops imagination and brings people together. However, films should be enjoyed wisely, without letting them replace real-life communication and hobbies.
